Subjective and Objective Claims

According to Epstein,  a subjective claim is based on one’s personal standards that  can be either true or false depending on their own beliefs or how the the person making the claim feels. An objective claim does not depend on one’s personal standards.

There is a game that a friend and I play called "my team, your team." When either of us think someone is attractive we claim them by saying "my team," and when we think someone is unattractive we claim them on the other person's team by saying "your team." Everyone has their own perspective on beauty. My friend and I are not always interested in the same aspects. With that being said, the game "my team, your team" is a game of subjective opinions.

I wear a watch everyday, as well as, carry a cellphone around with me everyday. I match my watch to the time displayed on my phone and I know that it is correct considering it is a smart phone synced with the world time. Every now and then I will get asked a question by a friend or even a random stranger, "what time is it?" The answer is always objective.  Time doesn't base itself off of how people feel or their beliefs. Just because someone's clock is five minutes ahead doesn't change the real time.

Introduction

Hello Professor and Classmates,

I am Vanessa. I was totally confused with how to use this website at first. I am a sophomore declared as a Communication Studies major, but definitely looking into other majors. I was accepted into the Culinary Art institute, but declined the offer. I am looking into the Hospitality Management Field with an emphasis in food and beverage and also looking into minoring in Business. I really enjoy cooking and baking. I like to watch people cook and that's how I memorize procedure and what works with what. I also did Student Government in High School and went on a trip to Washington DC. Other interests I have are politics and helping people out. I have so many areas I am interested in and choosing a major has been difficult for me. I still don't know but I'm not too worried. I still have this year to figure it out.
